It is my great pleasure to welcome you to the website of the Embassy of Switzerland in Rwanda.
The opening of the Swiss Embassy in Kigali in November 2025, marked by the visit of Federal Councillor Ignazio Cassis, Head of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA), represents an important new chapter in the longstanding relationship between Switzerland and Rwanda. For many decades, the two countries have worked together in a spirit of partnership and mutual respect. The establishment of this Embassy reflects their shared commitment to deepen this cooperation and to further strengthen the ties between our peoples and our institutions.
Switzerland and Rwanda are connected by a relationship built on trust, dialogue and common values. Over the years, Switzerland has been a longstanding development partner of Rwanda, supporting initiatives that promote opportunity, resilience and good governance. In the coming years, this cooperation will remain focused on economic development, employment and local governance, as outlined in the Swiss Cooperation Programme 2026–2029.
At the same time, the opening of the Embassy reflects Switzerland's ambition to broaden and deepen its bilateral relations with Rwanda. Switzerland seeks to expand collaboration in areas such as innovation and science, while fostering stronger economic links, trade and investment between the two countries.
Switzerland also remains committed to contributing to peace and stability in the wider region. Where invited to do so, Switzerland stands ready to share its experience and expertise in areas such as dialogue, mediation and peacebuilding.
Beyond institutional cooperation, the relationship between Switzerland and Rwanda is enriched by the many connections between our two peoples. Members of the Swiss community living and working in Rwanda play an important role in strengthening this friendship. I look forward to getting to know them and to working together to nurture these close ties.
